Introducing
TOM BAKER
CHIEF SUPPLY CHAIN MANAGEMENT OFFICER
“My first real job was with Tungco. I worked part-time from my sophomore year of high school, all the way through my high school graduation. I would clean and sort scrap every day after school.
I was offered the opportunity to return in January of 2011 as a buyer. I worked primarily on growing our reach and managing several of our current accounts.
I have been in procurement since that time, and was named the Chief Procurement Officer near the end of 2016. Today, I serve as the Chief Supply Chain Management Officer.”
APPROACHABLE, DETERMINED AND AN UNCANNY ABILITY TO SERVE OTHERS –
These are the words used to describe Tom Baker here at the Tungco office
Over the past 7 years, his friendly demeanor and accessibility have allowed for successful relationships with countless new suppliers in the Tungsten Scrap Industry. Tom’s strength of character serves to motivate his procurement team to achieve all difficult goals in spite of obstacles. Throughout his time here at Tungco Inc., Tom is thought of as being a “servant leader” by providing a Second Mile Service, meaning he will always go the extra mile for his suppliers and fellow employees. We are thankful to have Tom Baker as part of our Tungco Family!
Q&A–
What gets you out of bed in the morning?
I truly love my job with Tungco. Each day is a new adventure and I love the process of putting deals together. Our team at Tungco is amazing to work with.
How would you describe your day job to a child?
I buy metal that other people are finished with and help to make that same metal usable again.
What is your biggest achievement to date – personal or professional?
My biggest achievement is having the opportunity to provide a good life for my wife and son. Their happiness is the motivation for most everything I do.
How do you define success?
Being able to live the life that you want to live.
What do you like to do on your days off?
I like to spend the most of my time away from work with my wife and son. When I can carve out a couple hours to myself, I enjoy a round of golf.
If you could choose anyone, who would you pick as your mentor?
Abraham Lincoln. I am inspired by his ability to recognize the right person or action for the circumstance. He put men into great power who he didn’t see eye to eye with all because he knew that person was the right fit. That takes not only great vision but great humility.
What do you like most about your job?
I most like putting deals together. The many moving parts of a deal can be overwhelming sometimes, but I like the challenge.
What does a typical day look like for you and what are you currently working on?
My position is all about relationships. Each day is full of opportunities to build new and nurture current relationships both outside and inside the walls of our office. I am currently working on growing our supply in new, creative ways.
What three words would you use to describe your role?
Relationships, Supply, Vision
What are your biggest professional challenges?
The biggest challenge for me professionally is navigating an ever-changing market.
